LNCOC1, a long non-protein coding gene acts as a key regulator in the development and progression of ovarian cancer (OC).

Characteristics

Lnc-OC1 is located at the chromosome 8 (GRCh38.p7, 142702252–142726973). RNA-fluorescence in situ hybridization (RNA-FISH) results revealed that Lnc-OC1 was distributed both in the nucleus and in the cytoplasm of HEY-T30 cells.[1]

Function

Lnc-OC1 functions as an oncogene in OC. Lnc-OC1 can induce the OC cell proliferation by promoting cell cycle progression and suppressing cellular apoptosis. Lnc-OC1 represses the expression of endogenous miR-34a and miR-34c as a sponge. It promotes xenograft growth via sponging miR-34a and miR-34c. [1]

Regulation

Ectopic expression of miR-34a or miR-34c significantly decreased the expression level of Lnc-OC1 and vice versa. [1]

Expression

Lnc-OC1 was significantly upregulated in OC tissues and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis confirmed that high Lnc-OC1 expression was associated with poor prognosis of OC patients. Importantly, it was also demonstrated that knockdown of Lnc-OC1 suppressed cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion and migration in vitro and inhibited tumorigenicity in vivo. [1]
