Characteristics

LNCAROD is transcribed 130 kb downstream of Dickkopf homolog 1 (DKK1) on the opposite strand on chromosome 10q21.1 [1]. LNCAROD is a relatively highly expressed, multi-exonic and poly adenylated long ncRNA [1].

Function

LNCAROD is a tissue-specific regulator of DKK1 expression [1]. Upon LNCAROD knock-down there is a significant increase in the transcription pausing index at the DKK1 locus in agreement with LNCAROD being involved in transcriptional enhancement of DKK1 [1].

Regulation

The promoter of LNCAROD in MDA-MB-231 cells when methylated does not show characteristics of active transcription as opposed to MCF-7 cells where the promoter is hypo-methylated and A-ROD is actively expressed [1].

Expression

The expression of LNCAROD in MCF-7 cells is high compared to other cell lines and generally shows an expression restricted to epithelial and endothelial cells (NHEK and HMEC) expressed lncRNAs were identified [1]. LNCAROD was upregulated in the micro-dissected tongue SCC tissues [1].
