Characteristics
MIR222HG, located on Xp11.3, is proximal to two miRNAs, miR-222 and miR-221, which have been previously associated with regulating VSMC proliferation and Ang II actions in endothelial cells[1].
Function
Since miR-222 and miR-221 are known to play a role in proliferation of VSMCs (vascular smooth muscle cells), MIR222HG functioning in cell proliferation may likely be through its role as the host transcript for the two miRNAs[1].
MIR222HG may be conserved in human and mice as modification of H3K4me3 is not enriched at the locus encoding for miR-222/miR-221but is enriched ~25kb upstream from them[1].
Regulation
MIR222HG was up-regulated by Ang II[1].
