Characteristics

>1.2 kb; antisense to Zeb2 (a transcriptional repressor of E-cadherin) (Nelles (2003)).

Function

Controls translation and therefore function of the Zeb2 protein coding gene through regulation of Zeb2 mRNA splicing (Beltran (2008)). Zeb2 translation requires retention of an intron, Zeb2NAT overlaps the 5' splicing site of this intron and when expressed inhibits splicing allowing translation of Zeb2 (Beltran (2008)). Snail1 acts to stimulate Zeb2 synthesis via post-transcriptional regulation which appears to be mediated by Zeb2NAT (Beltran (2008)).

Expression

Expression is upregulated by Snail1 (Beltran (2008)).

Conservation

Good conservation between human and mouse (Nelles (2003)).
