This gene belongs to the family of long 8 intergenic non-coding RNA genes in human chromosomal region 22q11.21. This gene carries the TBTA sequence which consists of satellite DNA, Alu elements, and AT-rich sequences.[1]

Functions of RNA transcripts from this family are not known.[1]

Regulation

In a Genome wide study, this lncRNA gene is among top 20 differentially expressed lncRNAs in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) tissues where it is upregulated compared with paired noncancerous thyroid tissues. [2]

Expression

RNA transcripts of these eight FAM230C-related genes are expressed almost exclusively in the testes. [1]
